Well… Technically it’s an EP but it’s still so good.

Shoutout Finn for showing me this project. I think it’s fun to switch it up sometimes and listen to something so new.

A couple months back Lucas, Finn, and I started a little music group chat. No communication, just music sharing. We send in songs or albums and talk about them. On Tuesday, Finn texted in the group chat “This album is my little poppy guilty pleasure rn”. I’ve always enjoyed a Finn rec and the underlying rule of the group chat is that you have to listen to whatever is sent once. Or at least that’s what I think. Once again Finn did not disappoint.

After listening to the album I texted this

Overall Thoughts:

What’s not to like, well a song named timothee chalamet, that’s about it. Finn describes it best “ it’s a fun little ep”. With less than 200,000 monthly listeners I would say SOFY is still up and coming and I’m really excited to see what she puts out next. Being her second full EP, it feels really complete. The album title kinda describes the overall feeling chaos and commotion. There’s so much going on but it feels so rounded as well. There’s this swing throughout the album that’s super fun and feels like a soundtrack to a good day. Taking influence from 90’s brit pop SOFY brings in tons of fun sounds mixing in heavy driven drum tracks. I think my text kinda sums it up best, but give it a listen for yourself.

Favorite Tracks

  • YOYO: Ok this might just be me but there was a show called MTV Underground, and I swear she samples it. Like the show, it's a great intro for whats about to come. The gritty deep bass and guitar give it that street funk vibe. Plus her telephonic voice on top just adds to its "im wayyyy coooler than you" factor.

  • Socks: I get it, I just get it. Like a punch to the face you are falling when you least expect it and this song embodies that feeling. With big guitar riffs she creates that euphoric feeling of being head over heels for someone

  • Timothee Chalamet: I hate the title, but the song is fun. This feels right out of the early 2000’s.

Finn’s Favorite Tracks

  • Wet paint

  • Socks

  • No drama

  • Supermarket

Throw on some SOFY and get ready for a great weekend!
