Fleetwood Mac Son or Allman Brothers Band Daughter?

My mom is the biggest Stevie Nicks fan in the world; just ask her. She recently even told me her style is based on the famous Fleetwood Mac member. I mean, she is probably the coolest member, so why not mimic her style? To be honest, I wasn’t the biggest fan as a kid listening to Fleetwood Mac. Maybe because my mom played it 24/7 and I was just annoyed sometimes, but I have finally come around to appreciate it. Fast forward a couple years, and I'm driving cross-country with my mom. A piece of advice: play songs you think your parents will like when you drive with them; they'll think you're cooler. After 8 hours of Fleetwood Mac, I kind of got it. Recently, I have been growing my never-ending vinyl collection, and at the top of my list has always been this album. So this Friday, as I clock in to type away some emails (shaking hands and kissing babies), let’s get into it and set up the weekend with a Rumours listening.
Overall Thoughts
“Trust” is what I wish I could have told young Dent. The taste in music grows like a fine wine. When I say there might be only one miss on this whole album, that’s just because everything else is sooooo good. Again, as I’ve always said, I think how you feel about music depends on the day and where you are at in life. So maybe today wasn’t the day for some songs but was definitely the day for others. This album really just molds perfectly well to any mood you could find yourself in. I wish I could’ve seen them perform live. Here me out… The Vegas Sphere?

Favorite Tracks: Short Answer: All of them
Never Going Back Again: Like most FM songs, this is definitely written about another member in the band. Imagine performing a song about how shitty you were, must be kinda weird right? The simple SoCal guitar feeling allows the song to breathe without too much going on. Being the shortest song on the album, trapped between two higher-intensity melodies, is a real change. While the lyrics aren’t super deep, they portray this simple yet deep message that anyone can relate to. While it happens sometimes, the writer hopes to not repeat the same mistakes.
The Chain: How could I not talk about this song? As you flip the vinyl to side B this is the first song. The little crackles turn into this thumping beat and you know what’s about to go down. If this song can’t get you excited about life, I don’t know what will. It’s a straight injection of main character energy. A classic nonetheless, and such an important song on the album.
Go Your Own Way: Honestly, all I have to say is the guitar solo 👌 Just perfect.
You Make Loving Fun: Going back to its roots, this reminds me a lot of their early work. It’s so funky and wavy. While the goal of this album, as they stated, was to make a “pop album," this one song just sounds so different from the rest. The highlight of this song is the crisp drums that allow the song to just kind of cruise all the way through. While on the sadder side, you can tell the writer looks back fondly on their time together with the other person.

Final Thoughts
Honestly, I could write so much more about every song, but I’d rather just let the songs explain themselves. I wish I had something negative to say about this album. There’s just something about it that allows me to keep coming back, and with summer right around the corner, I see this coming on the aux a lot. I hope you take a drive down to the beach this weekend with dreams blasting through the speakers. My last thought: Just enjoy it.
