2 Splendas, Half and Half Please

I recently traveled home for the holidays and for the first time since covid, I wasn’t getting on a overpriced flight going from casual LA weather to the tundra of the east coast this time of year. As I get over the mountains and see the valley as heading towards Santa Barbara I had one thing on my mind; Coffee. There’s something different about home coffee. Coffee has been the family drug of choice for as long as I can remember. My mom drinks a pot before I am usually up. My dad drinks coffee all day, everyday sometimes ordering one after dinner. We aren’t a very picky coffee family and rarely talk about it, but its a part of all of our lives. My dad and I would travel when I was little either going to soccer games or random father son adventures and just out the door our usual first stop was for coffee. My dad is a simple coffee drinker 2 packets of sugar, splenda for some marketing reason, and half of half; about an inch of creamer. I never knew why we went with Splenda, it does add a little kick that sugar doesn't. This was his usual order and would overtime become mine. Sometimes I would end up down the LA coffee path ordering things I can’t even spell with more crap than coffee in it. While good, they never filled my heart the same. I don’t think my dad’s order is the best type of coffee or something so different, but you can’t replace the taste of home. As always, till next time
